Earth day is celebrated on April 22 when global events are held supporting protection of the environment. The first event held in 1970 first raised environmental issues before a mass audience when Fifth Avenue in New York was shut down and 1 million people attended the Central Park celebration.

Earth Day Network is the non-profit organization which co-ordinates nearly 200 countries participating worldwide and involves more than a billion people around the globe. Environmental groups use earth Day events to inspire changes in behavior and inspire policy changes for the sake of the environment.

1% for the Planet is an organization we support at Cafe Milagro. We were actually the first members in Costa Rica to join! 1% members contribute 1 percent of their sales for environmental causes. It was founded by entrepreneurs who wanted to use their businesses as a basis to grow a supporting network. Today there are over 4,500 participants who are using their combined resources to create positive change. Like-minded companies, individuals and non- profit organizations can all participate.

Ways that we can do our small part to help in this movement are not only through a monetary donation. We can contribute in other thoughtful ways. For example, by taking an eco friendly holiday we can help the environment and enjoy ourselves at the same time. There are many opportunities to do this in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica!

Our location provides an ideal environment to celebrate an individual Earth Day in Costa Rica and can be enjoyed at any time of the year. The country has developed a solid reputation over recent years in its environmental conservation policies. Our stunning locations of natural beauty provide an excellent way to appreciate nature while being aware of the need for preserving and keeping it pristine for the future.

Since 1994, Cafe Milagro has been working with small, independent growers to source the finest coffees Costa Rica has to offer.
